Top golf courses

Right here are the top five golf course from areas situated all over the world. Get those electric golf trolleys ready, here come the best of the best.

5. At number five- Shinecock Hills
A stunning course that has hosted four US opens so far. Really very challenging, easily going to struggle to get your usual handicap on this course. The course itself was first designed in 1891 with further amendments occuring in 1930, with no changes happening since it just goes to show a perfect course has no faults.

4. At number four is the magnificent St Andrews (old)
This is more than likely the oldest golf course in the world with golf rumoured to have been played here way back in the 12th century. Although known as the home of golf it is apparently not very good for newcomers to the course. This is a course that you have to get to know before you like playing here so many other golfers have said.

3. Cypress point club
the vast majority of people will never get a chance to play on this course as it only has 250 members but the last few holes have been called the best in golf. This had to come into the top five, I have never actually played this course but always wanted too.

2. Royal County Down golf course is at number two
This course is the best course in the UK hands down and was designed wback in 1889 with major works done to it in 1908. Some of the best golf I have ever played has been on this course which is why it is at the number two slot, of course it is a stunning course which helps.

1.Pine Valley golf course
This course is stunning both in looks and in the way it plays which is why in my opinion it has taken the number one spot in this list. The only problem with this course is the huge 10ft deep bunker containing no sand, in other words its a no go area! Get it in there and you are stuffed.

Thats it, the top five golf courses in world have now been chosen. No need to charge up those golf batteries when you have the caddies at these places to drag your clubs around for you.

Get Away To A Golf Vacation Resort

June 26th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

For golf nuts (and who playing the game isn’t?), a dreamlike time at golf vacation resorts is more and more a possibility these days. The notion of playing eighteen holes of golf on a world-class course, combined with a stay at an equally world-class hotel is an idea that can’t be topped. And as far as finding any fault with that notion, there just doesn’t seem to be any.

What’s really attractive about the idea of a golf vacation resort is that these places are beginning to appear all over the world, and even in Scotland. The birthplace of the game features a few spots that include courses on which the game was played in the mid-1800s. Also, a real treat to experience would be an Ireland golf vacation! However, for the best experience, the resorts in North America are the leaders of the pack, at present.

Golfers who want to golf on courses that play host to some of the top tournaments in the U.S., including the Open, can head to the Monterey Peninsula and the Pebble Beach Links courses. They’re rated the number one public courses in the country, at present. And the quality of accommodations is as good as the quality of the courses.

The level of class and style at many of the hotels at these golf vacation resorts is also top-notch. For example, North Carolina’s Pinehurst Resort has an array of lodging that’s the equal of any four-star hotels in the country. Plus, it’s the current 2008 winner of the Best Golf Resort accolade from Travel and Leisure magazine. The hotels and the courses meet or exceed every expectation.

Golf vacation resorts as a real getaway is a vacation idea that’s really hard to top. They combine the best of golf and golfing activities with the best of hotel and resort living into one beautiful package. Most avid golf enthusiasts pine for a chance to play on some of the major-league, PGA-certified courses at many of these resorts, and now they finally have an opportunity to do so.

Golf vacation packages can easily be found and booked online, although most places offer a book-by-phone option for peace of mind. So, what are you waiting for? Go have the golf vacation of a lifetime!

If you can’t stop playing golf, but you hate playing while it’s raining, then this is the perfect solution for you. Lugging golf trolleys or even electric golf trolleys around a course can be difficult, especially when it’s wet, but you can avoid all this trouble by playing golf at home, or even on the go.

With new games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour, you can play golf at home on next generation console when you can’t face th weather outside.

You can enjoy playing as some of your favorite professional golfers through a huge range of courses and tournaments. Tiger Woods PGA game also allows you to play through a series of tournaments and real time events that are activated throughout the year using the consoles internal clock.

For anyone that really fancies a tough game, you can customise the courses to make them even harder personally for you. You can deepen the bunkers, narrow the fairways, grow the rough longer and change other parts of the course’s design.

This game allows you to play golf at home, away from the weather, but how about when you’re out and about? Well there is an option for that too.

From February 2nd, Carphone Warehouse are releasing two new phones from Sony Ericsson, designed for gaming. The brand new W910 and F305 Sony Ericsson phones are exclusive to the Carphone Warehouse, but that’s not all. They both come with a wide range of games to play, and if golf is your thing, the W910 is for you. Out of the box, this great phone comes with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 already installed, allowing you to play golf anywhere you go.

The W910 will set you back around £100, alot cheaper than some golfing equipment, although the partner may not like it that you can now play golf anywhere.

All this will help improve you game if you want to improve you shot distance. Let’s face it - every golfer wants to improve their distance as you get that much closer to your target. Choosing The Best Mens Golf Club Set

June 22nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

There are many different mens golf club set styles created by manufacturers to appeal to a wide range of golfers. These golf club sets come in numerous different designs, colors, and styles so that anyone can find a golf club set that will fit their needs. There are several things that will need to be considered when choosing the best mens golf club set to ensure that you are getting the right complete golf club set for your needs.

The Style Of The Golf Club Set

Since there are lots of styles available with the men’s golf club sets, you need to choose the style that suits your own style. For example, there are antique as well as modern golf club sets. You must select according to your preference. You do not have to try and coordinate your golf club set with anything, like your clothes for example, but make sure that the design and the style of the club set is suitable to your tastes. Of course, because price is dependent on style, you have to think about that aspect also.

The Price Of The Golf Club Set

Have a fixed price in mind even before you start your shopping. Prices are quite flexible with golf clubs. Whatever figure you have in mind as your budget, you are sure to find a mens golf club set to match within that range. So, you need to decide on how much you will spend first. In case you want something special, like a customized golf club set, you have to be ready to pay more. Standard golf club sets that you can get directly from the store will be cheaper. But remember to decide your budget first because some of these can tend to be very expensive.

Men’s Golf Club Set – Selecting the Size

The size of the mens golf club set that is chosen is also very important for obtaining the best golf club set for your home. Some sets come with more than a dozen different clubs while some others come in a much smaller amount and you can add additional pieces when shopping for golf clubs in the future. Purchasing a mens golf club set that has a large number of clubs included will be a waste of money for a beginner because they will have too many choices to make while trying to improve their game.

Making Your Own Golf Clubs

June 21st, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

For the amateur golfer, making your own set of golf clubs or just that one special club can be a lot of fun, and it could help your game.

You may ask why you would ever want to build your own golf clubs.Well, the big reason is that when you buy clubs off the shelf, you are stuck with the sizes and fits that are in stock - limited only.  There may be one size for men; another for the women; and another for children who need junior golf clubs. At 6 ft 2 in, for me buying off the rack can cause my golf game to suffer and cause some annoying back aches because if the clubs are too short. By learning to make your own golf clubs you can help your body and save some cash at the same time.

There really isn’t much needed to make one’s own golf clubs. You just need a head, shaft, grip and some other materials to hold it all together.Browsing through the net will give you many great options to buying your components and make clubs that match your game.

Club heads — iron and wood heads are available anywhere. You can buy club heads that resemble popular brands or designs unique to the manufacturer you buy from. Each vendor offers their own line of clubs.

Shafts – you can buy the same shafts that the name brand golf club companies use.

Grips - there are a variety of sizes and types of grips. You can find them in different prices and even get the same ones the pros use..

Ferules — That’s the little plastic piece that goes on the end of the shaft above the club head on some clubs. These are purely decorative except on graphite shafts, where they are needed to absorb some of the stresses where the shaft joins the club head.

The beauty of finding the components to make your own club is the fact that you can actually mix and match the components to match your game.

Some of the tools needed are:

Grip tape – two sided tape is needed

Grip tape solvent – very cheap and you can recycle the excess

Epoxy – you will needs an epoxy with a drying time of 2-3 hours

Pipe cutter for cutting steel shafts, a plumbing cutter will work fine

For graphite shaft use a hack saw

Grip cutting knife – one with a hooked blade works nicely

Sandpaper for roughing up shaft tips to epoxy them

Shaft clamp – a thick piece of rubber in a vise works well

Making a golf club consists of measuring and cutting the shaft to length, abrading the tip to make sure the bond to the head is as good as possible. You then push the ferrule over the thin end of the shaft and glue the head to the shaft with an epoxy. Waiting for the epoxy to dry is the worst part of the job… You want to take your new golf club to the course and try it out. Once the epoxy has set, you wrap the butt end of the shaft with grip tape (double-sided sticky tape), wet it using one of a wide range of solvents, slide the grip over it and let dry. Once that is done, you can now clean your new golf club - polish the ferrule and end up with something better than you buy at the store.

So get to your computer, find some great websites and order your components. In no time, you will be able to create your own golf clubs. So, go and have some fun.

Those who have played golf knows that it’s addicting. Building your own club can be addicting as well.
