Perfect Your Golf Club Grip Using The Right Tension
A lot of people have trouble with their golf club grip. It is much more common for golfers to hold the club too loosely than too tightly, except for people who are just starting to learn. So what we are really focusing on is keeping you from having a loose grip. You may think we are overdoing it, but that is just because you are used to doing it incorrectly with your loose grip.
Don’t grip your golf club so tightly that it creates tension in the muscles of your shoulders and upper arms, but maintain a firm grip on the club. You may be wondering how you should keep your wrists. If you keep them too tight, you’ll have a stiff swing, and you won’t get a proper wrist break.
Don’t worry about the wrists. The usual problem is that the students don’t put a strong enough grip on the club. When their grip is too loose, then a fault opening is created at the top which can cause the left wrist to collapse, the golfer to over-swing, and a number of other limiting problems. Even though a tight grip may be uncomfortable at first, it will greatly improve your swing and correct faults that will help your overall game.
Where Should Your Fingers be for a Good Golf Club Grip
When we say the golf club grip should be tight, in addition we mean that nearly every finger should be on the club. This refers to the last three, primarily, of your left hand, as well as the initial three on the right. A lot of golfers tend to put the forefinger of the right hand – which curves around the shaft directly beneath the right thumb – too loosely on the club. Avoid that.
Hook this finger around the shaft firmly, so that the tip of it makes a definite contact with the tip of the thumb. If you don’t, the club will be liable to drop, at the top of the swing, into the big V between the forefinger and thumb. This means a loss of control at the top, which must be regained as the club comes down.
Now you are probably wondering how we get the ball to stand up. Although you have to take certain steps, it is not a mysterious or hard process.
In golf the correct proper stance is an absolute must. You have to take a position that will enable you to swing to club back freely which will allow you bring it down to the ball on an inside-out arc very easily. The body should be slightly bent from the waist keeping your shoulders rounded or hunched and the knees slightly flexed. Take note that the weight should be equally divided between the feet and when flexing the knees it is better to flex to much rather than too little.
Remember: keep the head down somewhat, just slightly. Note that your left shoulder will be higher than the right owing to the fact that the right hand is down farther than the left hand.
You now possess the knowledge of how to apply the correct amount of tension to your golf club grip. You also have learned how tight to hold the club and the proper stance. All you need now is to practice that perfect golf club grip.
